Optimize Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) with beCPG software

By 20 February 2024February 22nd, 2024No Comments

beCPG PLM now includes LCA functionality, enabling companies to improve the sustainability of their products.

In fact, at a time when environmental regulations are tightening and society is paying increasing attention to sustainability, it has become imperative for companies to rigorously analyze the environmental impact of their products. It is in this context that Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) plays a central role.

What is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)?

The LCA is a multi-criteria and multi-stage methodology that evaluates all the potential environmental impacts of a product throughout its life cycle. This includes the extraction of raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, consumer use, and finally, disposal or recycling.

How does beCPG integrate LCA?

The software automatically calculates the life cycle analysis of products using data related to raw materials, recipes, packaging, and manufacturing processes. Furthermore, users have the option to define the characteristics to calculate, such as the impact on climate change equivalent to CO2, and to integrate custom calculation rules to meet the specific needs of their company.

Moreover, it is possible to directly import LCA data from the Agribalyse database of ADEME. Consequently, this facilitates obtaining detailed and accurate information on the environmental impact of raw materials with just a few clicks.

Calculation of the environmental footprint of products

From the LCA data provided, it is possible to automatically calculate the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). This is a standardized method of the European Union that offers an overview of the environmental footprint of products. This advanced functionality allows companies to measure and compare their products according to a set of environmental criteria, thereby aligning their practices with European standards.

Integration of LCA into the Business Intelligence (BI) module

beCPG goes beyond calculating environmental impacts by making this data available in BI tools. This allows, among other things, the generation of detailed reports such as climate change by product family or even the products with the lowest environmental impact.

It is also possible to visualize the environmental impact of raw materials, packaging and processes during product development.

These features encourage in-depth analysis and facilitate strategic decision-making in terms of sustainability.

Environmental score generation

Finally, beCPG PLM lets you generate an ecoscore. This is based on an analysis of the product’s life cycle. See : Calculate the Eco-score in the software beCPG.
