beCPG adapts to the new Nutri-Score calculation algorithm

By 22 January 2024January 23rd, 2024No Comments

As of January 1, 2024, the calculation of the Nutri-Score will change to bring it more in line with European dietary recommendations. In particular, this will help to guide consumers more effectively. Indeed, consumers are placing increasing importance to transparency when it comes to nutritional information.

WHAT CHANGES?

The primary objectives of the new calculation are to:

  • Promote the distinction between foodstuffs according to their sugar and salt content, with more appropriate consideration of their sweetener content.
  • Improve the distinction between whole and refined foods.
  • Optimize the classification of foods and beverages. For example, milk, dairy and vegetable drinks are now included in the beverage category. In this way, more precise consideration can be given to their fat and sugar content, as well as sweeteners, in order to limit their use.
  • Greater differentiation between red meats and poultry meats, as well as between different vegetable oils according to their saturated fatty acid content.
